One of the most basic steps you can take to heal your body is to give yourself real food to eat. This is not as easy as it sounds! So many foods have been processed and filled with chemicals to give it good color, taste, and a long shelf life that it’s really hard to get just plain food! One of my friends has dubbed this “Frankenfood”. Yahoo recently did a story on McDonald’s taking shelf life to a whole new level, featuring a Happy Meal that didn’t decompose for 6 months! http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20101012/bs_yblog_upshot/mcdonalds-happy-meal-resists-decomposition-for-six-months Impressive, but I have a friend who gives nutrition lectures and she has a 2 year old Happy Meal that looks no different than the one pictured in the Yahoo story. Amazing! And, not in a good way.

These preservatives and chemicals not only increase shelf life, but make it more difficult for our bodies to digest and extract any nutrition that remains in the food. So, what’s a family on the run to do?

When my boys were young, we relied on good old peanut butter and banana. I’d take a piece of whole grain bread, spread peanut butter on it, place a banana on it and fold the sides of the bread around it, resulting in what my boys called a “hotdog style pbb”. They loved it! Any healthy sandwich would do, so if your child is allergic to peanuts you still have options. It takes no longer to put a sandwich together than it does to sit in a drive-through. A little baggie of baby carrots tops off a MUCH healthier alternative! (This works for adults, too!)

So, let’s save the scary stuff like Frankenfood for Halloween, ok?

Wishing you the best in life,

My mission in life is to give people the tools they need to become healthier and happier. I founded Natural Health Solutions in 1994, but I’ve worked in health-related fields since 1974. What I’ve seen over these 36 years is that the people who are successful at making lasting, positive changes in their health are the people who have done it one step at a time. This blog is all about helping you to make the right choices to get and stay healthy! And, any step you take brings you that much closer to your goals.

You see, it’s the little things we do every day that lift us up or drag us down over time. Even if it doesn’t seem like a big deal to start the day with a glass of lemon water (very good for your liver!), over the weeks and years this has a huge impact on your health. How about switching from using hand sanitizers (which often contain very toxic ingredients and can create drug-resistant bacteria) to using a lavender spritz to fight germs? When one pre-school teacher did this with her class last flu season, the principle actually came to her and asked what she was doing…. hers was the only class in the school without one flu case! Not familiar with the lavender trick? Put 30 drops of lavender oil into a 3 oz spray bottle from the travel cosmetic section of the drug store and fill the rest of the way with water. Carry in your purse or car and shake before using. Spray grocery store buggy handles or gym equipment, spray your hands and pat dry…. use anywhere you want to kill germs. Not only does it kill germs on contact, it also helps to strengthen your immune system. No wonder those pre-schoolers weren’t sick that year!

Now, don’t worry if you don’t incorporate each and every suggestion in these blogs. Another thing I’ve learned in 36 years is that you will be attracted to the things that make sense for you to do. Pick up one or two and try them on for size. After 3 weeks of use, it will become a habit and you won’t even have to think about it any more.

I look forward to helping you improve yours and your family’s health! I welcome your feedback and questions.

With warm regards,
